Barbera d’Alba DOC

Barbera d'Alba is the most traditional of the Piedmont wines.

The grapes grow in vineyards composed of predominantly clay and limestone soils, alternated with layers of whitish marls, that give excellent structure and a vigorous but balanced character to the wine.

Product specifications allow to make Barbera d’Alba as a blend with a small percentage of nebbiolo d’Alba (up to 15%), to increase its refinement and elegance.

The Marchesi di Barolo winery has taken up this opportunity, which – together with a careful choice of the location of the vineyards and a particular attention to the perfect ripening of the grapes – allows to produce a softer, more structured but less acidic wine.

Barbera minimum 85% and Nebbiolo maximum 15%

Tasting Notes

The colour is deep ruby red, with purple hues.

The scent is fresh, with fruity notes reminiscent of blackberry, red fruit jam and spicy hints of vanilla and toasted hazelnut. The taste is full and enveloping, with a slightly evident acidic vein. Well blended with the remaining sensations, the woody note.

Barbera is a wine for the whole meal, complete on every occasion.

It goes very well with tasty appetizers, first courses with rich condiments and main courses of meat, boiled or roasted, but it also exalts the traditional soups. It is the ideal companion for snacks with fresh cold cuts and hard cheeses.
